BIO: Yoshlie S. Garcia, DJ Bacán Bacán is the son of the legendary Pedro Luis Garcia, “El Bacán Bacán” a familiar figure on television and radio in New York. Yoshlie began his broadcasting career and DJ career in 2009 with the company Spanish Broadcasting System with Polito Vega Jr.

His dynamic personality, charisma and enthusiasm quickly has made him reconized as one of the top DJ’s in the Latin market. His performance reflects his energy and passion for his work, always with a high respect and professionalism to his audience and followers.

As a DJ, Bacan has mixed live and has hosted and djayed at major latin events and clubs in the United States and Canada. His pure and natural energy combined with his knack for blending makes him a crowd motivator. In 2008 DJ Bacan toured with hip hop legend KRS ONE coast to coast as the personal DJ for the hip hop guru. He has also hosted parties of celebrities including actor John Gandolfini. Bacan was also chosen to be an official guest DJ on the Despierta America morning show in May 2011 with Latino Super Star Pitbull.

Q. So how did it all begin?

A. In a nutshell, I was born into the industry. My father being one of the top Latin television and Radio grammy award winning personalities of our time, I’ve been exposed to music and entertainment since as early as I can remember ,It has always been a way of life growing up in my household with both my parents having majored in the arts,I remember being 5 or 6 years old at the radio station and just assumed I would be the one behind the mic when I grew up … Some kids want to be firefighters cops doctor lawyers but me I always wanted to be a DJ … My play pen was in a recording studio and I asked for my first DJ set at 8 years old … I started with 2 gemeni belt drive turntables a scratch master mixer and still remember the smell of the flight case as we opened it up … I live for buttons the knobs the headphones the mics the MUSIC.

Q.Where did the name come from?

A. I inherited the name from my father when I landed my first radio gig overnights at La Mega 97.9 NYC “El Bacan Bacan” meaning a person who has a common love for all different walks of life cultures countries easy to talk to get along with and fun to be around,I was raised with all these values and when I was passed the torch I had very present the importance and responsibility to the public or as I call “mi pueblo” that came with such a great name … I made a pact to bring joy,serve,be a voice and stand up for my people via my medium of communication. I am DJ Bacan Bacan a man of the people !

Q.What gave you that initial push?

A. My push is my cause I want to genuinely be a positive influence for anybody I come across,there is a big misconception to what doing what I do entails,it isn’t about money or running around with girls in expensive cars.my push is to be in control of a position that holds so much influence and power it can dictate the decisions and future of the young who look up to the big time DJ’s and artists ,my push is holding the number one spot taking the crown going toe to toe with who ever or what ever gets in my way because I know Im the man for the job .My cause is righteous and I will not lead my people wrong.

Q.Which other countries have you played AT?

A. I’ve played in every major city in the US. I’ve played in Canada in numerous occasions and its very early in my career but I plan on hitting every latin speaking country with my music and message of peace love unity and safely having fun .

Q. What was the first event you ever played at?

A. Too many to remember but I started doing house parties at 13.

Q. What’s you favorite SONG of all time?

A. I can’t say I have one favorite particular song or genre of music. Im open and listen to everything

Q. So how is the scene in your eyes at the moment?

A. I think the scene is in a very good place right now musically. Given that most of us now in the latin scene are second and third generation latinos. We love to listen dance and enjoy all different genres of music as well as culture from very latin to the very anglo top 40 and urban,it is a reflection of who we are,a melting pot of people all working together towards one common goal to achieve peace and happiness for ourselves and ours and I love the fact that the universal language we call music brings us closer to each other and I believe the future will bring further unity and happiness.

Q. Funniest thing that ever happened at an event?

A. HMM, Tough one. Theres a couple that come to mind. This one actually just recently happened. I was DJaying on a live broadcast when the DJ table collapsed and I was stuck holding the turntable with one hand, the laptop with my other and my legs were holding the table. I stood there for about 10 minutes. It was pretty funny lol but we got threw it somehow !

Q.What is your favorite other djs that you have played with ?

A.I have had the pleasure of playing alongside NYC’s top DJ’s it is hard to mention any one DJ because I wouldnt want to leave anybody out but what I could tell you is that I have a tremendous amount of respect for all of those who came before me and helped path the way to what the business is today.

Q.What advice would you give to up and coming DJs?

A. First off make sure your in it for the right reasons before you go in it full blown that you really Love music and the business because it is a long race with rocky roads and Im not talking about the ice cream the strongest will persevere in this competitive field, follow your heart intuition and never stop dreaming, work hard but most importantly work smart.ROCK OUT!
